Honda U3-X: Another one-wheeled Segway, this time its omnidirectional
Once again, another new perfectly balanced riding vehicle such as the PUMA and eniCycle has caught my attention. I don’t know what it is about these things, I feel like I’m eight-years old looking at pictures of sports cars and longing for the day when I can drive.
Yes, I want to ride those things really bad, and Honda has fulfilled my dreams with the U3-X. There is a wonderful video of it that you can see after the jump, just don’t ask me why there is no sound.
The U3-X has the ability to fold up compactly into a boogie board that is shaped like a figure eight. It is quite light at 22 pounds, and Honda used technology learned from Asimo to make it work.
For example, it uses balance control technology, which means the rider uses leaning to control speed and direction. It has the Honda Omni Traction drive system, which means it can go backwards, forwards, as well as sideways.
Not only that, but its downright sexy too. Well, this is one of those devices that I will probably never ride, but will always want to. At this present time, it is just a concept for now. Even the video looks like it was made entirely out of CG, including the rider.

GoPet scooter lets you get up and about

Forget about the Segway as a mode of personal transport – the GoPet scooter is much cheaper and won’t break your bank account, while being perfectly capable of ferrying you from one point to another on a campus or at the office. Powered by a 48V, 350W direct drive front hub motor, it can carry you at speeds of up to 16mph, while the 25-mile range ought to last quite some time until the next charging period unless you’re one busy bee who has to rush from one appointment to another throughout the whole day. A full battery recharge takes up to half a dozen hours, which translates to approximately 10 cents in terms of your electricity bill. There is no word on pricing, but it surely will be cheaper than the Segway.

Zune HD Player Is a Contender
Since launching its answer to the iPod in 2006, Microsoft has tantalized us with a combination of the sublime (great music subscription service, built-in FM tuner, wireless syncing) and the profane (awkward hardware, a stubborn unwillingness to play nice with the Xbox 360). But the Zune HD, due this fall, will finally step up the game by integrating into your home entertainment system. You’ll be able to buy and watch videos on your Xbox 360, and, for no extra charge, they’ll download to your Zune HD the next time you plug in. A 3.3-inch OLED screen will make sure those vids look their best. Throw in the first HD Radio receiver on a portable player, and Zune is starting to look like a contender, not a punch line.
HiPhone 3G S
Now how about that – an iPhone 3G S clone that is even close in naming convention – the HiPhone 3G S. This model from China (where else) will come with a 3.2" touchscreen display, Wi-Fi connectivity, an integrated FM tuner, the Opera browser and portable TV. HiPhone touts this to be their thinnest model ever at a mere 11mm, and could this be the best iPhone clone to date? You decide, but before you can arrive at a conclusion, you’ve got to pick one up, right?

A filing with the FCC last month offered some evidence that Creative had a new touch screen portable media player in the works. Named after the system-on-a-chip processor the company showed off during CES 2009, the Zii Egg has been officially unearthed today and its feature set actually shows promise. iPod Video?
In this TechCrunch article by Michael Arrington speculation is that the high end iPods like the iPod Touch, or even the low end ones except the Shuffle would be featured with video onboard. That would definitely be on my Christmas wish list if it ever materializes in that time frame. A lot of competitors are shaking in their boots. Read this link.
Nokia turns to Android in Smartphone wars
Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia is trying out the Android platform to try and cut into the critical smartphone segment as it is the only part of the mobile phone market which is growing. The Symbian platform is growing staid and old. Consumers are looking for phones that can go on the internet, send emails and download third party applications.
